Peace in Our Time

Geneva

The Secretary of State smiled toothily for the cameras as the television networks filmed him and his Iranian counterpart shaking hands. He stole a glance at the monitors to check his hair and wondered why he had to share this moment, his moment, after all of these many months of hard work with that worthless bitch of a president who was flying to Geneva for the signing tomorrow. Had he prevailed in those Iowa caucuses, it could have been his moment alone. He wondered if the Nobel Committee still considered him a short list candidate for the Peace Prize. And the current occupant of the White House might only be a one-term president. It happened. Not to mention, he was still a relatively young and vital man. At least young enough and plenty vital. Just ask his executive assistant.

Certainly, it had been him and not the president who had proposed the “amnesty” on whatever was found at the Iranian military sites suspected of conducting nuclear research. Of course, he knew it had been his young executive assistant who had come up with that idea when they were languishing in the afterglow of a particularly vigorous session of lovemaking one night in his hotel suite. It was fascinating how fucking could focus the young woman’s mind.

The Iranians had finally accepted the proposal a session or two later, after a bit more horse-trading on both sides. These Persians may be sharp in the bazaar but he was one hell of a negotiator himself. And later that night, he intended to inspire his executive assistant once again to flashes of brilliance, come what may or whomever. He smiled at the thought.
